Introductory Project Course – Serving Tray (IC1)

This is an opportunity for students with no previous woodworking experience to develop their hand skills while making a set project – a serving tray. Your tutor will demonstrate basic woodworking techniques and give step-by-step guidance. Construction methods include the basic use of a router and drill press. You will gain an understanding of and skills in:
Workshop safety and safe use and sharpening of hand tools
Timbers, types and characteristics
Measuring, cutting and planing
Gluing, sanding and finishing

Introductory Project Course – Tilt Lid Box (IC2)

Develop your woodworking skills while working on a set project. To find out more about working with wood come along to this course for beginners. You will be taught how to sharpen your tools, accurately measure and mark your timber, plane, saw and cut simple joints. And you won’t go away empty handed. You will develop and practice these handcraft skills while making a set project – a tilt lid box.

Introduction to marquetry –draughts board (MQ1)

This five week course requires no previous woodworking experience.  Students will work with a variety of veneers to produce a draughts board.  At the end of the course you will have an appreciation of the colour, grain and texture of different veneers and enough knowledge to design and prepare your own veneers for simple projects.

Relief Carving – Bread Board (BB)

A great introduction to relief carving. Your tutor will demonstrate this simple & direct way to decorate a traditional huon pine bread board with a wheatsheaf design and personal motto.
Turned huon pine blank and practice timber included. Carving Tools and mallets supplied for the duration course.
